Show: The Rainbow Day & Night
Meeting, cabaret, and show... an evening with committed artists in echo of the exhibition “Let’s sow our resistances”.
MAIF Social Club (Paris 3rd)
About
The Rainbow Day & Night is a highlight dedicated to LGBTQIA+ artists, programmed and organized by La Magnanerie at the Théâtre du Train Bleu in Avignon since 2024. At the crossroads of theater, dance, and performance, it features a pluralistic program mixing shows, meetings, and parties.
In a context of persistent discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people and increasing obstacles for live performance artists, the Rainbow Day & Night asserts itself as a space for visibility and dialogue. This highlight is held for the first time in Paris for one evening at the invitation of the MAIF Social Club.
The evening will continue with an electro and techno DJ set by Ukrainian artist and activist Jenia Gatash, at the bar Les Souffleuses, in the heart of the Marais (Paris 4th). Because dancing is a form of activism!
PROGRAM:
- 6:30 PM – “Creating, fighting, transmitting: what are the histories of LGBTQIA+ activism today?”. Meeting moderated by Javel Habibi, with Nour Joseph Gebrael, choreographer and dancer, and Christophe Martet, journalist, activist, and co-founder of Act Up and Yagg. Moderated by Javel Habibi – artist, director, and drag queen creator of the legendary parties at La Flèche d’Or – this round table brings together Nour Joseph Gebrael and Christophe Martet to question the legacies and current forms of struggles of LGBTQIA+ people and artists. From the AIDS years marked by Act Up-Paris actions to contemporary mobilizations in the face of far-right offensives (such as the action of the Les Inverti.e.s collective), how do queer communities transform anger into stories, solidarities, or artistic gestures? Between memory, creation, and resistance, this meeting highlights the political power of the arts to keep struggles alive, transmit stories, and invent freer and fairer futures.
- 7:20 PM – حمار الليل Hmar Lil – Somnambulist
Between theater and singing, حمار الليل Hmar Lil is the story of Asmaa, a young refugee. It blends her political commitments, her trips to the prefecture, her Pokémon stories, and her crush on a woman “as beautiful as the revolution.”
A young queer refugee, Asmaa arrives in France shortly after the release of the game Pokémon Go. She looks for her place, like refugees from Syria, South Sudan, or Afghanistan, prey to war. Stuck in a maid’s room too small to be rented, she dreams of being Pikachu. An alter ego capable of traveling through time and space and reliving memories. Asmaa Samlali sings in Amazigh and Arabic about her attempt to build a new life, accompanied by music and live translation by Zoé Kammarti. Despite the countless obstacles in her path, she prepares for a theater school competition and imagines rituals to heal her wounds.
- 8:45 PM – Cabaret Love – In joy, let’s resist!
A magical and singular space-time, the Cabaret Love is a poetic-political response to the world around us! A poetic ship on which to embark for a journey into care, which mixes different universes and artistic practices and invites us to inhabit the world differently.
We wake up one morning thinking that the world is going wrong. And that we are too.
What to do? How to do it? So that the world gets better... At the bow, Lylybeth Merle, performer, poet, and royal mistress of ceremonies, invites various artists, belonging as much to slam and performance as to burlesque and drag, to create an exploration where their practices meet.
With the participation of: Lylybeth Merle, DJombo Godess, Joli Younes, Drag Couenne
- 10:00 PM – Electro and techno DJ set by Ukrainian artist Jenia Gatash, at the bar Les Souffleuses, in the heart of the Marais (Paris 4th).
