About
Gurshad Shaheman takes the stage at the Théâtre de la Bastille with Cabaret Téhéran, a solo performance dedicated to the vibrant memory of Iranian culture. Through the portrayal of iconic female singers, the artist reconstructs a sensual, liberated Tehran that existed prior to the 1979 revolution. By blending personal history, historical fragments, and cult songs, the production creates a powerful space for cultural reclamation. This artistic exploration is strictly for audiences aged 18 and over. Located in the 11th arrondissement, the show offers a unique opportunity to witness the intersection of intimate storytelling and political reflection in a deeply moving theatrical atmosphere.
Through a gallery of legendary female singers he portrays alone on stage, Gurshad Shaheman blends iconic songs, fragments of history, and autobiographical bursts to evoke a free and sensual Tehran, brutally swept away by the 1979 revolution and the establishment of the Islamic regime.
Faithful to his writing style that intersects the intimate and the political, Gurshad Shaheman turns the stage into a space of reappearance and reappropriation. His body metamorphoses, crossed by the ghosts of a forbidden culture. And handling joyful celebration like no one else, he transforms the stage into a contagious spark of freedom.
