Discreet medical embroidery, exhibition by Martina Chiquet

Rarely do medical journeys translate into such raw and refined imagery. Through a collection of subtle embroidered works, this exhibition captures the quiet resilience and physical marks of treatment, offering an artistic perspective on a difficult reality.

About

The Goutte d'Or Library hosts the exhibition Discrète broderie médicale by Martina Chiquet from October 1 to October 30, 2026. Aligned with Octobre rose, this collection of drawings explores the reality of breast cancer, which currently affects one in seven women. Through personal photographs transformed into graphic works, the artist documents the journey of the disease, covering hospital environments, physical scars, and medical objects. This event, which is free to attend, is fully wheelchair accessible and designed to be inclusive for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and cognitively impaired visitors.

This exhibition is presented by Martina Chiquet, as part of Pink October: the subject is breast cancer, a disease that currently affects one in seven women.

These drawings were created from photos taken by the artist herself, from which she selected those that evoke the most significant stages of the disease, with their graphic quality also being a criterion for selection.

Some represent locations, particularly the hospital for those receiving their treatments there, while others show the marks left on the body by various interventions.

Other drawings display objects that accompany moments of care in hospitals; they are part of the daily life of the medical world.

Opening and meeting with the artist on Thursday, October 8th, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
