The Swiss Cultural Center presents Le Grand Drame, the first solo exhibition in France by artist Klodin Erb. This exhibition turns the gallery into a theatrical stage where tragic and burlesque elements collide. Through monumental paintings featuring textile borders and a new video work, Erb explores memory, aging, and the fictions we create to define our lives, all while offering a feminist take on classical painting. The exhibition is free to attend and runs from September 30 to December 24, 2026. Visitors can explore these works during the center's opening hours, which vary between weekdays and weekends.

Le Grand Drame takes over the Centre culturel suisse like a stage where the tragic brushes against the burlesque, the sensitive mingles with the absurd, and its figures evolve in a universe that is at once theatrical, sensual, and profoundly alive. Under the glass roof, Venusinfurs displays a series of monumental paintings bordered with textile cards. Inspired as much by representations of the birth of Venus as by Roman Baroque ceilings, these works populated by floating, intertwined, or suspended bodies compose a free and feminist reinterpretation of a long pictorial tradition. Viewpoints shift, scales are blurred, and the figures seem carried away in a continuous movement.

Created for the occasion of the exhibition, a new video work extends this universe. Half-human, half-animal beings wander through a series of missed encounters, fragmented memories, and ghostly socialites. Through them, Klodin Erb pursues a reflection on memory, its deformations as we age, and the fictions we create to give shape to our lives.

With Le Grand Drame, painting that is deeply colorist and gestural, imbued with surrealist moments, becomes decor, stage, and character all at once.

Our take on this event

Klodin Erb’s debut solo exhibition in France transforms the Swiss Cultural Center into a space where the tragic meets the absurd. Under the glass roof, the Venusinfurs series features large-scale paintings inspired by Roman baroque ceilings and depictions of the birth of Venus. These colorful, gesture-heavy works feature floating figures that challenge traditional scales and perspectives, resulting in a vibrant and feminist reinterpretation of art history.

A new video piece, created specifically for the show, expands on these themes. It depicts hybrid creatures—half-human, half-animal—navigating a series of fragmented memories and phantom encounters. This video highlights the artist’s ongoing investigation into how memory shifts as we age and how we construct personal narratives to give meaning to our existence.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge. You can visit from Tuesday to Friday between 14:00 and 19:00, or on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 19:00. The exhibition runs through December 24, 2026.
