About

Experience the captivating work of Hélène Fauquet at Lafayette Anticipations in the 4th arrondissement with her exhibition, Vivresse. This unique showcase explores the intersection of life and ecstasy through sculptures that combine shell forms with photography. By blurring the lines between nature, artifice, and historical memory, Fauquet invites you to reflect on perception and the way images are stored. This exhibition is entirely free to the public and is fully wheelchair accessible. You can visit from Wednesday to Sunday, between 11:00 and 19:00, to discover this thought-provoking installation that challenges traditional boundaries between decorative forms and conceptual art.

Vivresse - a portmanteau of life and intoxication - invites the discovery of a state where vital force and desire become one. Hélène Fauquet's unique body of work illustrates a tension between ornamental forms and a conceptual dimension bordering on surrealism.
Her recent work explores themes of ornament and art, nature and artifice, as well as history and the present. The shell has gauged the work and is ready to absorb it.

Hélène Fauquet's sculptures explore shells and the questions raised by their forms. The genesis of these sculptures lies in the gesture of obliterating her photographs with a three-dimensional object - the shell. Glamorously framed, these objects exude the shimmering allure of opalescent niches. The frames transcend their function as a simple presentation device to become a threshold to a sensitive and symbolic space.

Her work focuses on the remnants of photography and the movement of images. In her recent exhibition Phenomena at the Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland, she developed a phenomenological approach to perception and reflected on how information is stored.

Our take on this event

Vivresse, a title derived from the French words for life and intoxication, showcases the distinct artistic vision of Hélène Fauquet. Running from October 21, 2026, to January 3, 2027, the exhibition features works that investigate the tension between ornamental structures and conceptual depth. The artist's process involves layering three-dimensional objects, specifically shells, over her own photographs. These encased pieces shift from mere presentation devices into symbolic thresholds that invite viewers to step into a sensitive, imaginative space.

The exhibition draws on the artist's ongoing exploration of photographic residue and the movement of images, building upon concepts previously explored in her show Phenomena at the Kunsthaus Glarus. By juxtaposing nature and artifice, Fauquet invites an exploration into how information is stored and interpreted in our contemporary environment. Each sculpture acts as an invitation to look past the surface of the image.

Lafayette Anticipations, located at 9, rue du Plâtre in the 4th arrondissement, hosts this event. Admission is free, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Visitors are welcome to view the exhibition from Wednesday to Sunday, between 11:00 and 19:00.
