Discover the intersection of science and art at the ImmersION exhibition, running from June 26 to October 31, 2026, at L'Aiguillage in the 13th arrondissement. This project showcases thirty artworks inspired by quantum information research from the QITee team at the Matériaux et phénomènes quantiques laboratory. Through painting, soundscapes, and virtual reality, visitors explore the aesthetic world of lasers, ion traps, and laboratory instruments. Curated by Ph.D. candidate Lilay Gros-Desormeaux, this free exhibition offers a unique window into the sensitive and marvelous side of quantum physics research, bridging the gap between technical rigor and artistic expression.
The art and science exhibition ImmersION will be held from June 26 to October 31, 2026, at L'Aiguillage.
This project brings together around thirty artistic works inspired by scientific research conducted within the Trapped Ions division of the Quantum Information Technologies (QITe) team at the Materials and Quantum Phenomena laboratory, with the ambition of conveying the sensitive and wonderful dimension of their work environment and scientific questions to the public.
The exhibition invites the public to immerse themselves in the laboratory's universe through several artistic mediums: the vivid colors of lasers splash across canvases in paint and pigments, gold-covered ion trap surfaces are captured by artists' lenses, the clicking of switches that pace our sequences is transformed into a soundscape, and visitors wander between racks and oscilloscopes in an immersive virtual reality experience.
The project is led by Lilay Gros-Desormeaux, a doctoral student at the Materials and Quantum Phenomena laboratory (UMR 7162, Université Paris Cité / CNRS) within the QITe team. This project was carried out in collaboration with L'Aiguillage, a place for artistic creation and exhibition, whose artists were welcomed into the laboratory to discover its instruments, experiments, and the underlying physical concepts. The works presented are the result of this dialogue between creative freedom and scientific rigor.

Between June 26 and October 31, 2026, L'Aiguillage hosts ImmersION, a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring thirty works derived from a collaborative effort with the Matériaux et phénomènes quantiques laboratory. Artists were invited into the laboratory to study the Trapped Ions division's work, resulting in an exhibition that interprets complex physical concepts through diverse creative mediums.
The exhibition features vivid paintings inspired by laser colors, soundscapes constructed from the rhythmic ticking of laboratory switches, and a virtual reality experience that transports visitors directly among the racks and oscilloscopes. By observing the gold-covered surfaces of ion traps and the precision of scientific equipment, artists have crafted a visual and auditory journey that highlights the beauty of quantum technology.
Organized by researcher Lilay Gros-Desormeaux, this exhibition is open to the public free of charge at 19 rue des Frigos. It invites all who are curious about the intersection of creative freedom and scientific discovery to experience a new perspective on quantum information research.
