Synopsis:
Semillites and Tania, two queer siblings bound by a radiant friendship, embark on a journey through the brown territory of their own bodies, ones they once rejected. Amidst landscapes of skin, dreams, viscera, and places that vibrate to the rhythm of their lineage's memory, they discover a constellation of loved ones and ancestors — mother, father, grandmother, but also flowers, grasshoppers, and fossils — who accompany them in the reinvention of their identity, beyond the colonial narratives of Mexico. Through collage, animation, manifesto, dance, and documentary intimacy, the film oscillates between body and territory, revealing the strength of transformation and the tenderness of siblinghood.

Semillites Hernández Velasco - He/him

Semillites is a multidisciplinary artist and community arts facilitator from the Afro-Caribbean and transgender community, based in Vancouver, Canada, on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam nations. Born in Mexico City, he migrated north at nineteen. His practice is rooted in the celebration of imperfection, expressed through self-portraiture. Semillites' work relies on deep research into cultural and social associations linked to color and is guided by a commitment to collaborative practices. As an artist and cultural worker, he is dedicated to collaborating with and supporting migrant, BIPOC, and queer communities.

Tania Hernández Velasco - She/her

Filmmaker and film educator based in Mexico City. Through intimate, collaborative, sensory, and speculative approaches, her films intertwine and reinvent the body, territory, and identity at the heart of what is known as Mexico. Through cinema, she seeks to weave expanded bonds of kinship between the earth, human beings, and more-than-human beings.
