On June 18, 1994, a few weeks before the end of the genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda, Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse was saved thanks to a humanitarian convoy.
Long after the events, living in France, she contacted the BBC team that had filmed her rescue. She sought to find a trace of that unprecedented moment.
Thus began a relentless investigation to piece together the events with witnesses scattered around the world: the other child survivors, the humanitarian workers, and the journalists. The account of this fifteen-year quest was published in January 2024 and met with great critical acclaim.
Today, she brings this story to the stage, sharing the accounts and testimonies found during and after the writing of the book.
