About
BATBAIT (10:00 PM)
(Indie rock - Zurich, CHE)
Who is Batbait and how do they manage to create such intense and strangely beautiful music? (Because if we finally let rock speak for itself, it would surely say it wishes to be played by Batbait.)
A sound that goes far beyond distorted guitars and catchy rhythms. Here, the sound unfolds not just to skim the surface, but to reveal deeper layers. Glitter in the noise. Against the blank stare. When the patriarchy wavers, it sounds like Batbait. Accessibility is renegotiated when they tear through their tracks. Here, DIY is not a style, but a lived reality. The four musicians relentlessly develop their own musical language, free from conventional boundaries: distortion, waves of reverb, and jerky rhythms intertwine to create a complex and multifaceted experience. Music, text, visual arts, and aesthetics merge into their overall creation, centered on self-determination and autonomy. Batbait shows that rock music doesn't just need a lot of space, but that it can be loud and angry while remaining thoughtful, joyful, and sensitive. By associating sound with meaning, they create a journey that escapes the limits of any rock subgenre and charts its own path – radical and independent.
Between strength, nonchalance, and discretion: after their first album "Dirty Clothes" (Irascible Records, 2022), "Working in the Garden" was released in October 2025 via Irascible Records. And yet, Batbait still manages to cook pasta, even in cold water.
