About
Discover the sharp comedy La fin de la civilisation at Le Funambule Montmartre, running from October 8 to November 1, 2026. The story follows four strangers trapped inside a medical laboratory by Clara, an AI that misinterprets their bickering as a dangerous virus. This claustrophobic setting forces the unlikely group to set aside their differences to escape confinement. Suitable for audiences aged 12 and up, the play offers a humorous look at human interaction and our increasing reliance on technology. The venue is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy this thought-provoking and witty exploration of modern life in the heart of the 18th arrondissement.
Four strangers wait for their medical analysis laboratory to open.
They have nothing in common, except a remarkable ability to get on each other's nerves in less than five minutes! An overwhelmed father, a professional grumbler, a volatile young woman, and an overly talkative old man: an explosive cocktail.
But in this lab, no one is there to greet them: it's Clara, an Artificial Intelligence, who runs everything. And when she interprets their squabbling as symptoms of a dangerous virus, she locks the doors.
There they are, locked in. Together. Without phones. Without an exit. And under surveillance.
To get out, they will have to do what humanity does least well: stop hating each other long enough to save themselves.
A fierce, tender, and very topical comedy about AI and the difficult but life-saving art of living together.
Our take on this event
From October 8 to November 1, 2026, Le Funambule Montmartre presents La fin de la civilisation. The play centers on four strangers with nothing in common waiting for medical test results. As their naturally clashing personalities ignite a series of arguments, they find themselves locked in by Clara, the facility's AI, which identifies their squabbles as symptoms of a deadly virus. Cut off from the outside world and deprived of their phones, the group faces a high-stakes challenge: they must learn to cooperate if they ever want to regain their freedom.
This production serves as both a comedy and a poignant reflection on the human condition in the age of artificial intelligence. It examines whether humanity can overcome its instinct to conflict, especially when monitored by unfeeling machines. The narrative is as timely as it is entertaining, highlighting the absurdity of our digital dependencies.
