About
Théâtre Silvia Monfort presents Tragédie Démocratie, a production by Le Groupe O that examines the roots of citizenship. By shifting the perspective from modern representation to the direct voting systems of 5th-century BC Greece, the performance invites the audience to reconsider the nature of power. This production runs from April 20 to April 30, 2027, with ticket prices ranging from 5€ to 28€. It offers a unique theatrical space where history and contemporary political tensions converge, providing an intellectual challenge to all attendees interested in the foundations of democracy.
In the midst of an election period, Le Groupe O takes us back to 5th century BC Greece to question the democratic act. In Athens, a part of the people decides directly: they vote on laws, war, and peace. Quite the opposite of our current representative systems. From this gap arises a friction between past and present, which sheds a new light on our relationship with power.
On stage, fiction and history blend: citizens in debate, fragments of public life, or even Sophocles in the middle of a rehearsal. The theater becomes a space where thought is tested. With mischief, Tragédie Démocratie offers an abyme, where the paradoxes of yesterday reveal the fractures of today.

Our take on this event
Tragédie Démocratie arrives at Théâtre Silvia Monfort to explore the paradoxes of the democratic act. Created by Le Groupe O, the play contrasts the direct engagement of ancient Athenian citizens with today's political structures. Through a blend of fiction and historical references, including appearances by Sophocles, the stage becomes a forum where public life is debated and examined with critical insight.
