About

Choreographer Angelin Preljocaj brings his latest work, Soulèvement, to the Théâtre de la Ville – Sarah Bernhardt from October 22 to November 7, 2026. This performance examines the energy of civic movements and the physical intensity of collective action. Through a series of movements inspired by marches and public gatherings, the piece reflects on how individuals unite for a common cause and the emotional bonds formed within crowds. Located in the 4th arrondissement, the venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users, as well as being adapted for deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, and partially sighted audience members.

In this new work, the choreographer draws inspiration from the spontaneous gatherings that unite individuals in their civic impulses. He questions the energy coursing through bodies, the modes of identification, and the unspoken codes of those who commit themselves to a common cause: where do these movements that aspire to change the course of the world originate? Sit-ins, marches, breathless running, and burning tears sometimes trigger the exaltation of belonging to a new power, generating its share of encounters and love stories. When popular movements turn into a vital necessity, when two gazes meet in the crowd with a glimmer of hope, they cannot help but move a choreographer who has been creating for forty years with dancers who also engage daily in a collective union. At the heart of this creation, something rises like a promise that welds societal and artistic utopias together.
