Choreographer and performer Boris Charmatz brings his latest solo work, Muette, to the Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse. This piece acts as a testament to his career as a performer, focusing on a minimalist aesthetic where silence takes center stage. By exploring suppressed emotions and the stillness behind movement, Charmatz creates a suspended atmosphere for the audience to experience. Muette, written and danced by Boris Charmatz, will not be a sequel to the solo Somnole, but an extension of his commitment as a performer. A piece with minimalism as a manifesto. To be heard and watched… in silence.
"It took me years to start choreographing solos, but I am not going to stop there," confesses Boris Charmatz by way of introduction. Thus, after Somnole, a piece about breath and skin, the choreographer presents Muette, a "dance of astonishment, of silenced emotions." Muette will be guided by "what does not happen, not even through the lips, what does not come out, what sometimes acts as a screen to expression and movement." Boris Charmatz has accustomed us to exceeding expectations, daring to stage a work in a cathedral, an occupation of a library or the Palais Garnier, always seeking the resonance of bodies with the times. A singular soloist as evidenced by the duet A bras le corps, created with Dimitri Chamblas which the pair still performs, Boris Charmatz makes Muette a visceral gesture. "We will listen to a dance that fulminates quietly." And to invite everyone to enter this other dimension, a choreography like suspended time.
