THE LITTLE BOOK OF BIG THINGS

Linda Edsjö & Wilfried Wendling

Based on The Little Book of Big Things by Sophie Vissière

The images in Sophie Vissière's book evoke all the senses: sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing. A child's gaze lands elsewhere and differently than an adult's, and so does their attention. For the sound installation, Linda Edsjö focused on a few images that sparked very strong sound associations: children building a tower under a tree, a boy gently stroking his mother's belly, a girl falling asleep while listening to her father's voice, and also at the beginning of the book, the series of images creates a very marked rhythm! To recreate these spaces and actions, she used field recordings, object sounds, and a few instruments. Voices too, her own and those of her loved ones. And little melodies arrive, like birds landing on a tree.

Our take on this event

On Sunday, November 15, 2026, the Pavillon de la Sirène at 20 rue Dareau in the 14th arrondissement will host Le Petit Livre des Grandes Choses. Produced by La Muse en Circuit, this performance adapts the visual narrative of Sophie Vissière’s book into a rich sonic environment. Creators Linda Edsjö and Wilfried Wendling have crafted a piece that focuses on the sensory associations of the book, from the tactile sensation of a gentle touch to the rhythmic sounds of children building.

The performance utilizes field recordings, everyday objects, and musical instruments to recreate the poetic atmosphere of the original book. Voices and light melodies appear throughout the hour-long session, acting as subtle accents that guide the audience through various emotional spaces. The show is designed to shift the listener's perspective, mirroring the way children perceive details differently than adults.

Performances take place at 11:00 and 15:00. Please note that this is a paid event, with ticket prices determined by the Festival Musiques Rive Gauche. Whether you are looking for a unique artistic experience or a moment of sensory discovery, this performance at the Pavillon de la Sirène offers a distinctive approach to sound art.
