About

On Monday, April 19, 2027, Anatole Édouard Nicolo presents the stage adaptation of his novel À l'ombre des choses at the Léo Delibes Conservatory in Clichy. This autobiographical one-man show explores the delicate transitions of childhood, family bonds, and personal growth. Through a minimalist production where sound and light play a central role, the author shares his story of resilience and identity. Designed for audiences aged 12 and up, this performance is fully wheelchair accessible. Join this intimate theatrical experience, running from 20:00 to 21:40, for a poignant look at the moments that shape our lives.

Deeply attached to Clichy where he lived for many years, Anatole Édouard Nicolo is particularly happy to present there for the first time the stage adaptation of his novel In the Shadow of Things, winner of the 2024 Prix Envoyé par la Poste.

Alone on stage, he tells the story of a child who grows up between the laughter of a family of artists and the upheavals caused by his parents' separation. Tossed between social housing, squats, and small daily refuges, he seeks his place in a world that sometimes seems to slip away from him. By his side, one presence remains: that of his older brother, who gradually finds his path in music.

Through this autobiographical narrative, Anatole Édouard Nicolo evokes with modesty and sincerity the fragilities of childhood, family ties, unspoken words, and the construction of self. Carried by a minimalist staging where sound and light extend the emotions of the narrative, the show gives substance to an intimate story that resonates with many life paths.

Between narrative, theater, and live performance, In the Shadow of Things is an invitation to look differently at what is built in the shadows and which, at times, illuminates us to move forward.

A sensitive and luminous solo show, imbued with deep humanity.

Our take on this event

The Léo Delibes Conservatory in Clichy hosts the debut stage adaptation of the 2024 Prix Envoyé par la Poste winning novel, À l'ombre des choses, on April 19, 2027. Author Anatole Édouard Nicolo returns to the town where he spent many years to perform this deeply personal and sincere autobiographical narrative.

The play depicts a young boy navigating a life defined by his family of artists, his parents' separation, and a series of unstable living situations, from social housing to squats. Throughout his journey, the bond with his older brother, who discovers his passion for music, serves as a constant anchor. The performance utilizes a stripped-back staging to emphasize the emotional weight of the story.

The event is suitable for spectators aged 12 and older and the venue is equipped to accommodate guests in wheelchairs. The performance begins at 20:30 and concludes at 21:40. Tickets are required for entry.
