About
The Théâtre de la Ville - Sarah Bernhardt presents the revival of the iconic piece Paradis, choreographed by Josette Baïz and performed by Groupe Grenade. This 1-hour show celebrates the fusion of classical, contemporary, and urban dance styles through a vibrant and fraternal lens. Designed for audiences aged 7 and up, the performance uses an imaginative visual language inspired by the art of collage. You can attend this artistic event between November 11 and November 14, 2026, with ticket prices ranging from 15 to 35 euros.
Its creation almost thirty years ago felt like a revolution. A landmark work by a duo trained in both classical and contemporary dance with a curiosity for urban styles, "Paradis" by Montalvo-Hervieu became an XXL manifesto of the diversity of styles, bodies, music, and aesthetics. Its whimsical and humorous universe, inspired by the art of collage and surprise, hit the mark with all audiences, touching "the child that everyone carries within themselves". The recreation of this colorful and tender Eden by Groupe Grenade seems obvious: it was also born in 1997, in the northern districts of Marseille. Composed entirely of young dancers, children and teenagers, it develops a choreographic language that transcends borders. In 2026, its director Josette Baïz wanted to bring back to life a cult show that echoes her own approach, and whose message of joyful fraternity is more necessary than ever. As a nod to the original, its recreation includes video excerpts of the original performers, a complicit way to celebrate the double anniversary of a key moment in dance.
