With Imminentes, choreographer Jann Gallois imagines a collective dance performed by six women. On stage, bodies gather, respond to one another, and support each other, as if carried by a single energy. Gestures propagate from one performer to the next, creating a ritual and forming a community. Thanks to the calm and profound strength that emerges from the movement, the choreography is capable of transforming how we look at the world.
The piece is part of the artistic universe of Jann Gallois, a choreographer rooted in hip-hop and recognized for her highly physical writing that blends urban and contemporary dance. Since creating her company BurnOut, the now co-director of the Agora, international dance center in Montpellier, has been developing a precise and expressive gestural language that questions human nature and the ways individuals can act together.
For her new creation, the artist draws from feminine energy. The dancers are powerful figures, like witches, goddesses, or nymphs. They embody a collective strength capable of overcoming the violence and tensions of the present. At no point, however, is the show a militant manifesto. Instead, it offers a poetic reflection on the bonds between beings.
In the history of dance, this approach evokes certain ritualistic and communal forms, but also the legacy of urban dances where energy circulates between performers. With Jann Gallois, this circulation becomes a metaphor for a humanity that seeks harmony.
