About
Emery Baï
PAINTER AND EXHIBITION CURATOR
Emery Baï is a multidisciplinary artist, primarily a painter whose work explores new African narratives and intercultural dialogue. His practice aims to be an expression of a fusion, a hymn to diversity and openness.
His dual grounding in West Africa and Europe nourishes a body of work at the crossroads of several cultural and aesthetic influences that questions societal hierarchies and inherited symbolic constructions.
With the series "Of Gold and Light," Emery Baï uses the codes of formal portraiture to place the Black body at the center of the narrative. Frontality, aesthetics inspired by fashion. Drapes, textiles, and accessories become signs of memories, cultural circulations, and resistance.
In the series "Myths and Allegories," the artist draws on African, religious, and classical imaginaries to create symbolic allegorical figures embodying strength, memory, resistance, and dignity. Halos and golden backgrounds give his figures a theatrical and religious presence in timeless spaces, where dominant narratives are reinvented.
This visual language allows him to explore and question the way images shape our perception of the world. His works create tension between aesthetic fascination and critical reflection, in a pursuit where the body becomes a territory of political, glamorous, poetic, or spiritual projection.
Emery Baï conceives and develops collective projects that bring artists with complementary universes into dialogue, as exemplified by this exhibition.
He will present his paintings as well as a textile piece, along with the works of photographer Mario Epanya, artisan couturier Jérôme Blin, ceramist Rahem Ancey, and the Small Small Studio.
Together, they intersect their perspectives and sensibilities to revisit the universal theme of Myths and Allegories through a vibrant narrative figuration, nourished by symbolism, anthropomorphism, and mannerism.
The exhibition will take place from October 6 to 11, 2026
at H.D Galerie — 45 Rue Vivienne — 75002 Paris.
