Feibai Institute (Paris 1st)
About
The Feibai Institute in the 1st arrondissement of Paris hosts immersive workshops focused on Chinese calligraphy and painting. Designed for adults aged 18 and over, these sessions welcome all skill levels to explore classical techniques ranging from seal script to spontaneous expression. Led by expert artist-researchers, the workshops emphasize mindful creation through body, breath, and imagination. These two-day intensive courses are scheduled on selected weekends between February and April 2027. The participation fee of 180 euros per two-day session includes all necessary art supplies for your creative practice.
During each workshop, we will explore fundamental styles based on masterpieces from the history of Chinese art:
Chinese Calligraphy Workshop in 2027:
from the regular and elegant strokes of zhuanshu 篆書 (seal script) to the cursive vitality of caoshu 草書 (cursive script);
Chinese Painting Workshop in 2027:
from the meticulous gestures of mogu 沒骨 (boneless) to the spontaneous expressiveness of xieyi 寫意 (spontaneous expression).
Each session alternates aesthetic approaches, demonstrations, guided practice, and personal creation: we will write and paint in mindfulness, with the body, breath, and imagination.

Teachers
HU Jiaxing 胡嘉興, artist-researcher, head of educational programs for Chinese writing, calligraphy, and epigraphy. PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the National Museum of Natural History.
ZHAO Fei 趙斐, artist-researcher, head of educational programs for fine arts and Chinese painting. PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Paris VIII.

Located on Rue Thérèse, the Feibai Institute offers a deep dive into Chinese art under the guidance of HU Jiaxing and ZHAO Fei. The curriculum focuses on fundamental styles, transitioning from the structured precision of Zhuanshu calligraphy to the free-flowing energy of Caoshu. Painting sessions cover the meticulous Mogu style and the expressive Xieyi technique. Participants engage in a mix of aesthetic study, guided practice, and individual creation, focusing on mindfulness and artistic intent.
Workshops run from 10:30 to 16:00, with a lunch break included, across several dates in 2027. The schedule features calligraphy on February 13-14 (Zhuanshu) and April 10-11 (Caoshu), and painting on February 20-21 (Mogu) and April 17-18 (Xieyi). The cost is 180 euros per two-day session, which covers all materials. Attendees must be at least 18 years old.
