About
Discover the ancestral art of Chinese seal carving at the Institut Feibai, open to participants aged 13 and older. Guided by calligrapher and researcher HU Jiaxing, you will explore the historical techniques of epigraphy and craft your own personalized seal. This three-hour workshop provides a unique opportunity to condense the essence of Chinese characters into a symbolic object. Located in the 1st arrondissement, the sessions offer a hands-on experience where all necessary materials are provided for your artistic project. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop serves as a gateway to the mastery of this ancient creative discipline.
The act of engraving is an original act of writing. A seal is a material medium par excellence for highly symbolic writings. Chinese characters capture, in condensed strokes, the essence of beings, whether existing or imaginary. For more than two thousand years, seal engraving has been a fundamental art in Chinese epigraphy.
During this Chinese seal engraving workshop, we discover the materials, study engraving techniques, and create personalized seals.
