The idea of Archives of the Invisibles has accompanied Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige for a long time. It has been nourished by their attention to what escapes, to what remains off-screen, to the missing, buried, or forgotten images.

The project turns to the images that artists and filmmakers still carry within themselves: shot footage that never found its place in a film but remains alive in their memory. What becomes of these images, these faces, these landscapes, filmed, loved, and then left aside? What could emerge if these images were shared and gathered?

Each artist and filmmaker is invited to unveil unpublished sequences and accompany them with a testimonial. Together, these fragments draw a sensitive and polyphonic cartography: a living archive, in perpetual construction.

Our take on this event

Some of the most powerful cinematic moments are the ones that never made it to the final cut. This unique exhibition invites you to explore a hidden archive of forgotten footage and untold stories, offering a rare glimpse into the secret visual memories that artists carry with them.

Archives of the Invisibles, curated by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, delves into the cinematic memory by showcasing forgotten or discarded footage. Open to visitors aged 10 and up, this exhibition highlights unseen visual fragments from the personal archives of various filmmakers and artists. It offers a unique journey through a sensitive cartography where missing images come to life to question what remains hidden. Located at 21 rue des Trois Frères in the 18th arrondissement, the space is fully wheelchair accessible and adapted for deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors.

Archives of the Invisibles explores the destiny of footage that was filmed, loved, and eventually cast aside. Featuring contributions from fifty artists—including names like Céline Sciamma, Alice Diop, and Kader Attia—the project gathers unreleased sequences that live on in the memories of their creators. Together, these fragments form a living archive that is constantly evolving within the KADIST art space.

You can visit the exhibition free of charge until January 9, 2027. Opening hours are Wednesday from 10:00 to 18:00, Thursday and Friday from 11:00 to 19:00, and Saturday from 15:00 to 19:00. Please note that the venue will be closed from December 21, 2026, to January 1, 2027. The venue is wheelchair accessible and equipped to welcome deaf or hard-of-hearing guests.

Every Saturday at 16:00, the mediation team leads a free guided tour, available by reservation, to explore the project’s underlying themes. The exhibition also features a series of off-site events, including workshops, screenings, and discussions held at various partner locations across Paris, all of which are free to attend upon registration.
