Towards Tenderness: A meeting with the Safe Place association

Forget everything you think you know about traditional masculinity and join a raw, honest dialogue about the masks we wear. This meet-up with Safe Place invites you to challenge outdated norms and explore new ways of relating to one another. Expect a deeply moving conversation that pivots between vulnerability, heritage, and the courage to redefine manhood.

About

Using clips from the documentary Et maintenant on fait quoi ? (And now what do we do?), created by the feminist association Safe Place, Towards Tenderness opens up a space for discussion around the construction of hegemonic masculinity and its effects on all our social relationships.

How are masculine norms constructed? What roles do family, education, cultural representations, or peer groups play in their transmission? And what role can men take in the fight against sexist and sexual violence?

Since 2018, Safe Place has been documenting feminist struggles and creating spaces for transmission and dialogue between activists, associations, artists, writers, and the general public. This meeting is part of this approach: deconstructing the models that confine us, giving a voice to different experiences, and reflecting together on other ways of being, connecting, and living in society.

Prior to the first performance of Julie Berès' show La Tendresse (Tenderness) at the Théâtre de la Concorde, this meeting allows us to open up the questions that the show brings to the stage: those of virility, heritage, sexuality, violence, desire, and vulnerability. An invitation to continue the reflection, from the spoken word to the stage, to deconstruct and imagine more conscious masculinities together.
