The Mémorial de la Shoah hosts a special literary and visual event on Sunday, December 6, 2026, centered on the themes of memory and the German language. From 15:00 to 18:00, attendees can watch the 30-minute film Osna, followed by a discussion with Cécile Wajsbrot and curator Raphaël Sigal. Designed for audiences aged 12 and up, the session examines how literature approaches historical trauma beyond standard textbooks. Tickets are priced between 3 and 5 euros, with free admission available for specific categories, including students, job seekers, and visitors under 18, upon presentation of proof.
On this same conversation about Germany, the German language, “memory and its corollaries of oblivion,” which resulted in a book, A German Autobiography (Christian Bourgois, 2016). The writing of catastrophe is haunted by silence and phantasms, “a furious stir of nameless pains.” Of this stir, says Cixous, History cannot account. It is up to literature to do so; only it allows us to examine the depths that lie beneath the cobblestones of Osnabrück.
