About

On Sunday, November 15, 2026, the Mémorial de la Shoah presents the film Je suis mon corps by Agnieszka Juszczak. This documentary investigates the life and work of Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow, whose artistic vision was profoundly shaped by her experiences of war, exile, and illness. Through an intimate inquiry, the director bridges two eras and connects the lives of two Polish women who migrated to France. This event is open to attendees aged 16 and up and is fully wheelchair accessible. Tickets are priced between 3€ and 5€. The screening includes a live discussion with the filmmaker.

Director Agnieszka Juszczak traces the path of major Polish artist Alina Szapocznikow to understand how her life experiences—marked by war, exile, and illness—shaped her work. Arriving in Paris in November 1947, she developed her sculpture through her encounter with the city’s artistic spirit, where she met César, and through her many trips between Poland and France until 1963.

Gradually, her experience in the ghettos and camps emerges in her work: Pabianice, Łódź, and Bergen-Belsen, where she stayed for about ten months. By unearthing fragments of her past, Juszczak's film weaves an imagined dialogue during this intimate investigation between two eras, two countries, and two Polish women who emigrated to France.

In the presence of the director.

In conversation with Karolina Szymaniak, associate professor of Central European studies at Sorbonne University.

With the support of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah.
