About

Experience the moving documentary Les Garçons Ramponeau, directed by Patrice Spadoni, which follows the lives of Gaston, Jacob, and Étienne. Former classmates at a school in Paris’s 20th arrondissement, these young men face the upheavals of the 20th century, from the 1936 strikes to the struggles of the Resistance and the post-war era. This screening and discussion, featuring the director, takes place on Sunday, November 15, 2026, from 16:00 to 18:00 at the Mémorial de la Shoah in Drancy. The event is free with reservation and is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

Gaston, Jacob, and Étienne met at the Ramponeau school in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, where half the students were of immigrant origin, often undocumented. They experienced the general strike and the protests of 1936, followed by the war and its disasters. Gaston is forcibly sent to Germany with the STO. Jacob and Étienne, from a Polish Jewish immigrant background, join the armed Resistance and later the post-war social struggles.

Our take on this event

Les Garçons Ramponeau, a film by Patrice Spadoni, tells the powerful story of three friends—Gaston, Jacob, and Étienne—who met at a primary school in Paris. Their lives take different paths as history intervenes: Gaston is sent to Germany for forced labor under the STO, while his Jewish-Polish friends, Jacob and Étienne, join the armed Resistance. The film also examines their continued commitment to social causes following the war.

The screening will be hosted at the Mémorial de la Shoah in Drancy on Sunday, November 15, 2026, running from 16:00 to 18:00. Presented as part of the Escales de la Mémoire and the city of Drancy's Book Fair for memorial associations, the session includes a debate with the filmmaker himself.

Admission is free, provided that you make a reservation in advance. The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users, ensuring a comfortable experience for all attendees.
