Sixty years after the end of the Second World War, this choral film explores and collects the memories of former residents of the Vichy region under the Occupation. A series of free and spontaneous perspectives, it contrasts the reality of the Pétain regime with that of the Vichy residents who, like all other citizens, faced the same questions and problems arising from the defeat. Twenty years after its production, Last Year in Vichy now constitutes an archive in itself, a precious source capturing the expressions of the last contemporary witnesses of the German occupation.
In the presence of the directors and Henry Rousso, historian, director of research emeritus at the CNRS.
In conversation with Marie‑Béatrice Baudet, journalist at Le Monde.
Our take on this event
L’Année dernière à Vichy serves as a vital historical archive, documenting the personal perspectives of those who lived under the German Occupation. By collecting spontaneous testimonies two decades after the film's initial production, directors Paule Muxel and Bertrand de Solliers explore the complex reality of life under the Pétain regime compared to the experiences of ordinary citizens facing the aftermath of defeat.
The screening takes place on Sunday, November 22, 2026, at the Mémorial de la Shoah in the 4th arrondissement. The session runs from 16:00 to 18:00. This event provides a unique opportunity to engage with the creators of the film and historian Henry Rousso, director of research emeritus at the CNRS, who will be in conversation with journalist Marie-Béatrice Baudet.
Admission is available for 5 or 3 euros. Please ensure you make a reservation to secure your attendance at this session.
