About
Choreographer Sung Im Her brings '1 Degree Celsius' to Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse, a performance investigating the climate crisis through the lens of human identity and physical endurance. Featuring seven dancers, the piece translates environmental data into a sensory experience where lighting and music fluctuate alongside rising global temperatures. Suitable for audiences from 8 years old, this contemporary dance work challenges urban lifestyles and our collective ecological responsibility. Located in the 16th arrondissement, this performance offers a rigorous exploration of movement, merging minimalist aesthetics with the urgent, intense reality of our planet's changing climate.
1 Degree Celsius questions the capacity of art to inspire action in the face of the environmental crisis. On stage, seven dancers move with surgical precision to translate the impact of climate change on our bodies and identities. The piece offers a unique sensory immersion: the musical score was created using real data on rising atmospheric temperatures, while the lighting coordinates in real time with the Earth's increasing heat. Sung Im Her confronts us concretely with the sustainability of our urban lifestyles and our responsibilities.
Sung Im Her's work is distinguished by a constant balance between a clean aesthetic and powerful storytelling. Her style is defined by raw, geometric gestures, stemming from research into the very essence of movement, freed from any prior cultural meaning. Behind this apparent abstraction, the choreographer explores burning societal themes.
Commissioned by the National Asian Culture Center (ACC), this show is part of an internationally excellent trajectory. Trained at Hansung University in Korea and then at the P.A.R.T.S. school in Belgium under the direction of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Sung Im Her draws on the repetitive minimalism of post-modern dance. Her time with legendary Belgian companies, such as Les ballets C de la B or Needcompany, has infused her work with intense physical theatricality. This dual influence allows her to place humanity and its relationship with the natural world at the heart of contemporary creation to make us vibrate, together, for our one and only planet Earth.
