Seminar “Understanding and acting in complexity” — Collectif Malgré Tout
A philosophy seminar open to all to understand our troubled times and find ways to act together. Free admission.
CICP (Paris 11th)
About
Wars, climate, algorithms: what can we rely on to think and act?
A seminar open to everyone to understand what is happening to us and regain ways to act in a world that is slipping away from us.
Description
Wars, climate, screens, artificial intelligence: many people today feel anxiety and helplessness. Yesterday's benchmarks, such as faith in progress, no longer hold.
The Collectif Malgré Tout proposes reflecting on this situation together. How to think, feel, and act when nothing seems stable anymore? How to remain free and creative without letting ourselves be dissolved into networks and algorithms, and without seeking a new rigid order at all costs?
This season, we will discuss in particular the place of the individual in the era of digital profiles, what distinguishes the living from a machine, and how to think about change without losing one's footing.
The seminar is a moment of lively discussion, with no prerequisites. Everyone can send their questions and proposals before or during the sessions.

Our take on this event
Navigating the complexities of modern life feels increasingly overwhelming, but this seminar offers a grounded space to sharpen your perspective. Join a community of thinkers eager to explore how we can stay creative and free in an era defined by algorithms and rapid change.
The Malgré Tout collective hosts a series of seminars at the CICP in Paris's 11th arrondissement to analyze modern challenges, ranging from environmental crises to the influence of artificial intelligence. These sessions serve as a forum for collective reflection, helping attendees navigate the complexities of today's rapidly changing world. Designed for adults aged 18 and over, the event emphasizes open discussion and the sharing of personal perspectives. Meetings take place on selected evenings from 20:00 to 22:30 between November 17, 2026, and June 16, 2027. Attendance is free of charge, and the venue is fully adapted for blind or visually impaired individuals.
This seminar series addresses the feelings of anxiety and powerlessness often triggered by modern technology, algorithmic profiles, and global conflicts. The Malgré Tout collective facilitates a dialogue on how to remain creative and free-thinking when traditional anchors of progress no longer seem to hold. Topics include the boundary between living beings and machines, as well as strategies for managing change without losing one's sense of agency.
The sessions are held at the CICP, located at 21 ter rue Voltaire, 75011 Paris. Dates for the 2026-2027 season are November 17, December 16, January 13, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, and June 16. Each meeting runs from 20:30 to 22:30.
