About

Galerie M in the 19th arrondissement presents REBIRTH, a compelling exhibition by painter Nathanaël Philbert. Featuring monumental canvases up to 2.30m, the collection reflects on themes of renewal and resilience, drawing inspiration from the artist's Guadeloupean heritage and his recent creative journey in New York and Bali. Through bold brushwork and intricate layers, Philbert explores motifs ranging from traditional market scenes to faces emerging from flames. The exhibition is free to attend and fully wheelchair accessible, running from October 22 to October 25, 2026. It is an invitation to witness a profound artistic reconstruction.

Originally from Guadeloupe, Nathanaël Philbert had his first exhibition at 18, then devoted nearly ten years to entrepreneurship. In May 2024, a fire destroyed the agency he had built. He started over, in New York and then in Bali, where he set up his studio.

REBIRTH was born from this new beginning. His painting follows this movement: painting, covering, breaking, starting over on the same surface.

On the walls, canvases up to 2.30m: a domino table, a fish market, a woman in a madras, faces caught in the jungle or in the flames. Eyes, spirals, crossings, frank brushstrokes and gold, rare.

Opening reception on Thursday, October 22, 2026 starting at 6 p.m.

Our take on this event

Nathanaël Philbert marks his return to the art world with REBIRTH, hosted at Galerie M. After spending ten years building a business career, a destructive fire in 2024 prompted the artist to return to his primary passion: painting. This exhibition serves as a physical manifestation of that restart, with works that emphasize the process of breaking, covering, and starting over on the same canvas.

The displayed pieces, reaching heights of 2.30m, offer a raw look at the artist's experiences. Visitors will encounter diverse subjects including domino tables, fish markets, and figures caught in jungle-like or fiery landscapes. The paintings are characterized by frank brushstrokes, spiral motifs, and rare, striking touches of gold that highlight the depth of the composition.

The gallery welcomes visitors from Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25, 2026. The opening vernissage takes place on Thursday at 18:00. General opening hours are Thursday from 18:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
