The Bibliothèque Maurice Genevoix in the 18th arrondissement hosts a rhythmic music workshop for children from October 21 to October 24, 2026. Led by musician Maria Fonzino and the association Harmonies Itinérantes, participants use handcrafted instruments to explore pulse, musical notation, and active listening. This free event balances sound experimentation, group performance, and choreography, turning recycled materials into musical tools. Designed to be highly inclusive, the workshop is fully accessible to wheelchair users and provides adaptations for children with cognitive disabilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for all to discover the joy of creating music together.
Maracas, shakers, and other handmade instruments will accompany participants on a playful exploration of the basics of music: pulse, rhythms, simple musical notation, and listening games. Through musical excerpts from various horizons, children will learn to recognize different rhythmic patterns and play them together. The workshops alternate between crafting, listening, experimenting, and collective practice. Participants will be able to play alone, in pairs, or in small groups, discover the pleasure of creating music together, and even learn a small choreography accompanied by their percussion. Supported by the association Harmonies Itinérantes, this project also raises awareness about material reuse while developing listening skills, coordination, creativity, and self-confidence. Maria Fonzino is a musician, bassist, and singer. Curious about multiple musical universes, she collaborates with artists from diverse cultures and aesthetics, from the Latin repertoire to contemporary music. Trained in music pedagogy for young audiences, she regularly works in cultural structures, nurseries, and with children of diverse backgrounds. Her approach favors discovery, the pleasure of playing together, and the accessibility of musical practice for all.
