The Generous States of Bioethics at the Théâtre de la Concorde

Major scientific advances invite society to reflect collectively on the choices that will shape its future. As the States General of Bioethics opens in France, the Théâtre de la Concorde opens a space for dialogue where citizens, researchers, doctors, philosophers, and artists can compare their views on questions that concern us all.

About

In 2026, the States General of Bioethics invite French citizens to debate the ethical issues raised by advances in medicine and research. Behind these consultations, essential questions emerge: how to define a person? What is consciousness? Where to draw the line between life and death? These are topics that go beyond the scientific field alone and engage our vision of humanity.

Imagined by the Riposte Poétique, the Generous States of Bioethics propose to extend this reflection in an open, participatory, and multidisciplinary format. Debates, dialogues, artistic interventions, and public speaking make up this day designed as a space for exchange and collective reflection.

Starting from the question of organ harvesting from so-called "deceased" donors, Faroudja Hocini and Bruno Dallaporta offer an original reflection on consciousness, the person, and the living. Their approach invites us to confront viewpoints, question our representations, and nourish a civic debate around these societal issues.

Faroudja Hocini is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, philosopher, and associate researcher at the Chair of Philosophy at the Sainte-Anne Hospital (GHU Paris Psychiatry & Neurosciences).
Bruno Dallaporta is a nephrologist at the Fondation Santé des Étudiants de France, holds a doctorate in science and a doctorate in ethics, and specializes in philosophy applied to health.

Psychiatrist and philosopher Faroudja Hocini and nephrologist and ethics researcher Bruno Dallaporta lead this day of exploration at the Théâtre de la Concorde. Starting from the specific topic of organ donation from deceased donors, the speakers guide a broader investigation into the concepts of consciousness, human identity, and the living. The goal is to move beyond purely scientific technicalities to foster an open, citizen-led discussion on the implications of today’s medical research.

The event takes place on October 6, 2026, running from 10:00 to 18:00.
