An exceptional discovery for History

Shoah Memorial, September 2020. Two collectors arrive at the photo library department with five contact sheets mounted on large cardboard sheets. Among these photographs, only seven are already known to specialists of the subject and have been published. They are marked with a cross on the original sheets. The others are unpublished. This is the complete reportage. An exceptional collection of 98 images comes to light, 80 years after the events. This reportage documents the first massive arrest of Jews in France, the roundup of May 14, 1941, known as the "green ticket" roundup, ordered by the Occupier and organized by the French authorities.

Today, an exhibition and a book invite the public to participate in the investigation that allowed identifying the photographer, Harry Croner, and understanding his "gaze" on these tragic events, a gaze upon which German censorship fell, condemning these historical photographs to be forgotten for more than 80 years.
