About
From October 13 to November 6, 2026, the Portraits de France exhibition is hosted at the Maison de la Vie Associative et Citoyenne in the 12th arrondissement. Developed by the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle and the Groupe de recherche ACHAC, this display features 14 panels documenting figures from overseas territories and immigrant backgrounds who have shaped the history of the Republic. Promoting values of equality and fraternity, this free exhibition is fully wheelchair accessible. It offers a unique opportunity to explore a more inclusive version of the national narrative through the lives of those who have significantly contributed to French history.
For a long time, the history of France forgot certain figures from diverse and distant horizons. This exhibition, conceived by the National Museum of Natural History and the ACHAC research group, proposes a new approach: a chronicle of French history that is more open to the world, to those from overseas territories or immigrant backgrounds.
Offered today by SOS Racisme, this exhibition echoes the values and battles championed by the association: far from identity-based isolation, it instead highlights the portraits of those who make up the richness of France and its history. Far from the stench of hatred, racism, antisemitism, and discrimination, the exhibition invites us to put on an equal footing these personalities who have contributed to forging the strong values of our Republic: liberty, equality, fraternity. Against discrimination linked to origin, the exhibition path invites everyone to see themselves in this shared history through a selection of 14 panels spanning the eras up to the present day.
