While his parents are hosting friends, a child leaves the house in the middle of the night and enters the woods, wearing rubber boots. There, a strange, curious, and solitary beast will lead him into the heart of the forest to meet the nocturnal creatures that live there, and, in order not to be alone again, will try to delay the child's departure as much as possible.

All the books in the kingdom are strangely emptying of their stories. Immediately, the good King Balthazar becomes bored to death, dragging his entire people into a deep depression. "That is Boniface the storyteller's fault again!" exclaims Pougne, the grumpy hedgehog. But how can he be so sure?
