Step inside the heart of French craftsmanship with a guided tour of the Ateliers des Gobelins. This unique visit offers an intimate look at the production of tapestries and carpets destined for the Republic's official palaces. Accompanied by a guide, you will explore two of the three active workshops, witnessing the mastery of 80 artisans who utilize 23,000 color shades and traditional haute and basse lisse weaving techniques. This cultural experience is open to visitors aged 12 and over and runs until April 2, 2027, at the Galerie des Gobelins in the 13th arrondissement.
The Gobelins enclosure consists of no less than 600 Republican palaces furnished with carpets and tapestries, thanks to 80 artists, 23,000 shades of color, and 3 factories that preserve unique and traditional weaving expertise.
The Gobelins and Beauvais factories create tapestries using the high-warp and low-warp methods, respectively. The Savonnerie factory is dedicated to the production of carpets using the high-warp method.
Your tour guide will lead you into the secrets and workshops of the weavers. Visit two of the three workshops still in operation and discover the meticulousness and precision with which those who shape the finest works for official palaces work.
