Master classes "Improvisation and Renaissance Music" by Miguel Henry

The Erik Satie and Nadia and Lili Boulanger conservatories invite lutenist and composer Miguel Henry for a series of master classes on improvisation in early music.

Conservatoire Municipal Erik Satie (Paris 7th)

Part of the Erik Satie Conservatory Events programme

About

Miguel Henry has the dual objective of approaching the works of the past with respect and rigor, and involving the listener in a musical experience of today.

…

A performer for over twenty years in the field of early music, Miguel Henry founded the ensemble Les Présences in 2023 on the incredibly fertile ground of music composed between the 12th and 18th centuries.

This ensemble is part of the movement of rediscovering musicians several centuries after their death. And beyond the musicians, it is the encounter of musical thoughts that are foreign, or at the very least distant, to us.

The awareness of this historical singularity – the rediscovery of early music – is at the heart of Miguel Henry's work.

It is never about escaping the present, but on the contrary, always returning to it. Stepping aside, taking the necessary step back to listen to our world with a new ear.

Musician Miguel Henry hosts a series of master classes focusing on improvisation techniques within Renaissance music. Designed for musicians aged 12 and up, this program bridges the gap between historical repertoires from the 12th to the 18th century and modern musical expression. Led by the founder of the ensemble Les Présences, these sessions take place at the Conservatoire Municipal Erik Satie and partner venues in the 9th arrondissement. Attendance is free of charge for all participants, though registration with the event organizers is mandatory to secure your spot.
