About
Baroque music, which flourished in Europe from the early 17th century to the mid-18th century, is music of movement, contrast, and emotion. It is built as a true language, where every note, every silence, and every ornament can tell a story. On the violin, it invites players to perform with freedom, to bring phrases to life, and to explore a rich palette of colors and characters. From Corelli to Vivaldi, from Telemann to Bach, this repertoire offers a wonderful field of discovery, blending virtuosity, expressiveness, and the joy of playing together.
A violinist and pedagogue, Patrick Cohen-Akhenine is a recognized figure in the interpretation of early music. He will share his experience and knowledge of the Baroque repertoire with students, inviting them to discover the specificities of playing on historical instruments and the principles of interpretation specific to this music. Sound work, articulation, phrasing, ornaments, and musical rhetoric will be explored as paths to evolve their playing and give more meaning and freedom to their interpretation.
During this masterclass, students will work on pieces from the Baroque repertoire, notably works by Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, and Telemann. The masterclass will conclude with the Pastorale from Corelli's Christmas Concerto, performed by all the students.
