10 YEARS OF ACTIONS AND STILL SO MUCH TO ACCOMPLISH

When arriving after experiencing the worst is not enough to keep living, one must first rebuild connection, meaning, and dignity. To achieve this, the mobilization of the host society remains an obvious necessity, an essential.

The LIMBO association was born in 2016, following the impact of the documentary Voyage en barbarie by Cécile Allegra and Delphine Deloget, revealing the inhumane treatment inflicted on Eritrean exiles in the Sinai. Since then, the initial civic momentum has only continued to grow. It has become a mission of lasting solidarity carried by about sixty support staff, a recognized mechanism combining artistic mediation, social bonding, and long-term psychotherapeutic support. Limbo has already benefited nearly 500 exiled people in the long term, most of whom are survivors of torture and human trafficking.

The needs for psychological and social support remain immense, in a context where mainstream systems are still insufficient and ill-suited for exiled individuals. A dignified welcome cannot avoid paying attention to mental well-being and social ties. Because restructuring oneself after having left everything behind, undergone the unspeakable, and living with the risk of precariousness and xenophobia requires courage that commands admiration. Investing in care should never be an option: it is a human and political responsibility.

Ten years later, LIMBO measures the path traveled as much as the scale of the challenges ahead. Standing up against wars, denouncing the inhumanity of migration policies, counting the displaced and the missing on the routes of exile is becoming ever more difficult. Identity-based withdrawal and exclusion are gaining ground in France, Europe, and elsewhere in the world... Yet, none of this has ever dampened our determination to defend the unconditional nature of welcome and a vision based on care, dignity, and connection.

Reserve your spot for a major event of meetings and mobilization around our commitment. While looking forward to seeing you there, discover the 10-year speech by Cécile Allegra - founder of LIMBO, delivered at the General Assembly on June 6, 2026.
