About
The Institut des Cultures d'Islam presents From Rasht, the first solo exhibition in Paris by artist Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust. Running from October 16, 2026, to February 7, 2027, this exhibition showcases a deeply personal exploration of an Iranian heritage fragmented by history and displacement. Through fifty artworks, including new pieces, the artist weaves together family memories and archival materials in a vibrant, performance-inspired setting. Located in the 18th arrondissement, the exhibition is free to attend, offering a poignant look at diaspora and identity. Whether you are an art enthusiast or curious about personal narratives, this exhibition is open to the public with free entry based on capacity.
For ten years, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust has turned his impossible journey to Iran into the subject of a sensitive exploration. He collects fragments of a heritage to be reinvented in museums, archives, or family memories, to tell stories other than his own. That of his father, born in Rasht, uprooted following the 1979 Islamic Revolution and who came to France; that of an aunt who remained in Iran; that of a diaspora scattered as far as Toronto; and finally, that of a stolen heritage.
Patiently, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust weaves, sews, draws, assembles, and recomposes these narratives into images, which today constitute a body of about fifty works. For his first solo exhibition in Paris, he presents this intimate geography at the ICI, accompanied by new pieces, in a shimmering and lively scenography inspired by his performative practice.
Our take on this event
For the past decade, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust has documented the history of his family, shaped by the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the subsequent separation of his relatives between Iran, France, and Toronto. By drawing, stitching, and assembling fragments of memory and historical archives, he reconstructs the story of a stolen heritage and an intimate geography. This exhibition at the Institut des Cultures d'Islam marks his first solo show in Paris, featuring around fifty works within a dynamic, colorful scenography that draws from his background in performance art.
The exhibition is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, between 14:00 and 19:00, with adjusted hours on Fridays from 16:00 to 19:00. Please be aware that the venue is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and public holidays. The official vernissage is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, from 18:00 to 21:00.
Entry is free for all visitors within the limits of available space. Groups of 8 or more people are also welcomed free of charge. This is a unique opportunity to engage with a multifaceted body of work that turns personal exile into a broader, shared artistic experience.
