About

Explore the architectural legacy of Paris's bandstands during a lecture held on November 10, 2026. Geneviève Mercier, vice-president of Paris15 histoire, will detail the history of these structures that shaped the city's parks between 1888 and 1913. The event takes place at the Hôtel de Ville from 18:00 to 20:00. This session is intended for adults aged 18 and over and is fully wheelchair accessible. While attendance is free of charge, you must book your spot in advance, with registration opening on October 20, subject to availability.

The bandstands, which adorn the gardens and squares of Paris, were not all born under the Second Empire. However, these structures would adorn all the arrondissements of Paris between 1888 and 1913.

By launching the "Kiosques en fêtes" operation from April 18 to October 25, 2026, the City of Paris has brought these bandstands back to life, including those in the 15th arrondissement, which has five from that era. They were subsequently complemented by an open-air theater and a modern-style bandstand. Thus, thanks to musical programming reflecting the tastes of their time, each of them has contributed, since its creation, to the entertainment of the residents who frequent Parisian squares.

This lecture will be given by Geneviève Mercier, vice-president of Paris15 histoire – Historical and Archaeological Society of the 15th arrondissement of Paris.
