About

Beauvoir made in America (Gallimard Bande dessinée), born from the documentary The Second Sex, following in the footsteps of Simone de Beauvoir, is organized around eight portraits—real or embodied figures—encountered during Simone de Beauvoir's journey through the United States in 1947.

Where the camera remains dependent on archives and interviews, drawing opens a space of freedom: it allows for temporal ellipses, provides access to interiority, and enables the exploration of sensations, feelings, and settings.

Nourished by screenings, this roundtable, moderated by Anne Pauly, will show how this narrative freedom, carried by the rock and undulating style of Lisa Chetteau, offers a new critical reading of The Second Sex and contributes to its updating for new generations.
