About
As part of the Focus on new Japanese photography at the Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris, this meeting offers an overview of Japanese photography from the post-war period to the present day. Through the technological, aesthetic, and social shifts that have marked the medium, it highlights the richness and diversity of approaches developed by Japanese photographers over the decades.
The conference will bring together Miho Odaka, curator of the exhibition Five Views – Emerging Japanese Photography, and Héloïse Conésa, head of the photography department and heritage curator for contemporary photography at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Their dialogue will provide a deeper understanding of the transformations that have shaped contemporary Japanese photography and the issues that drive a new generation of artists today. [
This meeting is in resonance with the exhibition "Five Views – Emerging Japanese Photography", presented at the MCJP from October 6 to November 14, 2026, in partnership with the T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO. The project is also labeled as a Bicentenary of Photography project by the Ministry of Culture and is part of the official program of celebrations for the 200 years of photography.
