About

To Begin the World Over Again: the Life of Thomas Paine offers an intimate look at the political agitator who sparked the American Revolution, defined the French Revolution, and defended Reason as the foundation of our beliefs and morals. As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States, this play invites you to confront the principles upon which they were founded, while celebrating them and posing an essential question: do they still guide us today?

This play explores the world of the 18th-century Revolutions and the Enlightenment, with one of its most extraordinary figures as a guide. He was a brilliant man, both loved and hated, who lived at the heart of the upheavals sweeping the world, inspiring many with his pen as humanity sought new ways to exist. And through it all, Paine maintained the optimism that we could truly "begin the world over again," a sentiment that is at the heart of this electrifying theatrical portrait.
