About

In the presence of LSF/FR interpreters

Jean-Yves Augros has been a French Sign Language (LSF) teacher, actor, and stage director, among other things. He is above all an artist at heart. All arts interest him, but it is photography that he has mainly invested in.

In 2012, he imagined a new version of a painting kept at the INJS in Paris to pay tribute to the Abbé de l'Epée (the photo is on display at the library).

And then in 2026, the desire to create a new large-scale photograph bringing together many people led him to another painting at the INJS. A work created in 1897 representing Félix Faure visiting the INJS, which intrigues Jean-Yves. Could this painting exist today? What has changed since then? And who is this "great absentee"?

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, between 19:00 and 21:00, the Louise Walser-Gaillard Library hosts an exclusive meeting with Jean-Yves Augros. Drawing from his diverse background as a teacher, actor, and stage director, Augros delves into his passion for photography and his method of reinterpreting historical artifacts.

Central to the discussion is a painting from 1897 housed at the INJS in Paris, which captures a visit by Félix Faure. Augros uses this historical piece to examine what has transformed over time and how these changes reflect in modern society. By reimagining the scene through his own lens, he invites the audience to ponder the identity of the great absent figure mentioned in his latest work. This creative journey bridges the gap between the 19th-century original painting and the artistic inquiries of 2026.

The event is free to attend and welcomes everyone. To facilitate communication, professional French Sign Language (LSF) interpreters will be present throughout the evening. The library is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
