About

The Théâtre de la Concorde presents Brioches et révolution !, a performance that explores the French Revolution through the everyday items of a breakfast table. From December 2 to 11, 2026, two actors use bread, flour, and coffee to bring historical debates to life, connecting the past to contemporary democratic challenges. This playful, object-based performance is suitable for audiences aged 11 and up. Shows run from Tuesday to Saturday, 20:00 to 21:15. Tickets are priced between 8 and 15€, with specific conditions available for free entry.

A present-tense history of the French Revolution

Here, History is literally served at the table. Bread, brioches, flour, and coffee: using breakfast ingredients and a symbolic food of the revolution, two actors from the French countryside orchestrate a joyful, playful, and embodied piece of object theater, where famous figures cross paths with anonymous people, where grand principles meet concrete reality, and where the debates of 1789 resonate with those of today.

Who represents the people? How do we decide together? What does the common interest mean? What can an assembly do? The audience is also invited to enter into these debates which remain, in part, our own.

Designed for young people as well as adults, the show does not just transmit a historical narrative: it reactivates democratic energy. By giving flesh to the trial and error, the passion, and the invention of this period, Brioches et révolution ! reminds us that democracy is not just an institutional heritage, but a living, collective practice that must always be started anew.

With humor, intelligence, and a sense of play, Bérangère Jannelle creates a proposal that is both learned and accessible, where the pleasure of theater becomes a pleasure to understand, to debate, and to imagine together.

Our take on this event

Located in the 8th arrondissement, the Théâtre de la Concorde hosts Bérangère Jannelle’s unique theatrical production, Brioches et révolution !. By using breakfast staples as props, the performers—Vincent Bergeret alternating with Juliette Allain or Laureline Le Bris-Cep—reconstruct the spirit of 1789. The performance bridges the gap between historical figures and the general public, encouraging attendees to engage with questions about communal interests and democratic participation.

The event takes place from Tuesday to Saturday, between December 2 and 11, 2026. Each session lasts from 20:00 to 21:15. Designed for viewers aged 11 and older, the show aims to transform historical narrative into an active, collective experience. Ticket prices range from 8 to 15€, and visitors should note that free admission may be granted under certain conditions. This is an opportunity to explore the origins of our political systems through a creative and thought-provoking lens.
