About

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Jean-Pierre Melville Library hosts the brass quintet Q5 for an afternoon of chamber music. From 16:00 to 17:30, the ensemble presents a diverse repertoire ranging from classical masters like Mozart and Bach to popular film scores and traditional pieces. Formed in 2019 in Romania, the group features Lucas Brizzi, Walter Mena, Aurélie Verdon, Yves Laborde, and Jorge Herrera. This performance is entirely free, offering an inclusive opportunity for local audiences to discover the balance and timbre of a professional brass formation. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible for all attendees.

While relatively unknown to the general public, who are more accustomed to concert bands or brass bands, the brass quintet is a premier ensemble in classical chamber music. Like its distant cousin the string quartet, this formation is renowned for being "perfect" in terms of its range, timbre, and balance. A brass quintet generally consists of two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone, and a tuba.

Q5 aims to make classical music accessible to as many people as possible. Their repertoire allows their audience to explore Western classical music (Mozart, Bach, Lully, etc.). Nevertheless, the inclusion of more popular pieces in their repertoire - traditional music, film scores, covers, etc. - helps to expand the audience and raise awareness among those not accustomed to classical music.

This young international ensemble, formed in 2019 in Floresti, Romania, is composed of:

Lucas Brizzi, Walter Mena, trumpet; Aurélie Verdon, horn; Yves Laborde, trombone; Jorge Herrera, tuba.
