Médiathèque James Baldwin (Paris 19th)

About

The James Baldwin library in the 19th arrondissement hosts storytime sessions titled Les Heures du Conte, offering children engaging literary experiences. Scheduled on selected Saturdays—October 17, November 7, and December 5, 2026—these events provide age-appropriate storytelling led by library staff. Whether you attend the morning session for toddlers or the afternoon slot for older children, the environment is designed to spark curiosity and a love for books. Participation is completely free, though registration must be completed in person on the day of the event. Due to limited capacity, families are encouraged to attend as a duo, with one parent accompanying each child.

For reading moments adapted for everyone, the media library is offering a new Storytime format.

  • Two reading sessions will be organized on the same day:

- A mediation session for toddlers (0-3 years old) from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, where readings will be individualized. Librarians and their companions will read to children individually or in small groups, who will be free to move around the space. A format that allows for better discovery of books and reading.

- One for older children (4-6 years old) from 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm, to introduce new items and librarians' favorites to children and their companions.

  • Upcoming dates:

- Saturday, September 5

- Saturday, October 3

- Saturday, October 17

- Saturday, November 7

Free admission, registration on-site on the day of the event. As places are limited, please prioritize coming as a duo, 1 child / 1 parent.

Our take on this event

Located at 10 bis Rue Henri Ribière, the James Baldwin library invites families to enjoy storytelling sessions tailored to different developmental stages. On October 17, November 7, and December 5, 2026, two distinct formats are available to ensure a comfortable experience for all participants.

From 10:30 to 11:30, the program focuses on toddlers aged 0-3 years. This session encourages movement and interaction, with librarians providing personalized readings to children in small groups or individually. This flexible format allows little ones to explore books at their own pace within the library space.

Later in the day, from 16:00 to 16:30, children aged 4-6 years can discover new titles and the librarians' personal favorites. These sessions are designed to foster a love for reading through curated selections. All events are free of charge, with on-site registration required on the day of the activity. To help accommodate as many families as possible, please limit your attendance to one child accompanied by one adult.
