Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Ave Maria and Famous Adagios

Vivaldi's The Four Seasons "Summer" and "Winter", Handel's "Sarabande", Massenet's "Méditation de Thaïs", Bach's "Aria", Schubert's "Ave Maria", Rachmaninov's "Vocalise", Albinoni's "Adagio in G Minor", Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 5", Paganini's "Andante Cantabile", Chopin's "Nocturne", Elgar's "Salut d'amour", Monti's "Czardas".

Presentation of the work

This is arguably Vivaldi's best-known composition and the most performed musical work in the world. It is a violin concerto where the soloist plays accompanied by a chamber orchestra. The content of each part is varied and evokes each of the seasons to which it relates. For example, winter is punctuated by pizzicato notes on the high strings, reminiscent of freezing rain, while summer evokes a storm in the final movement, prepared by thunder rumbling repeatedly throughout the movement.

Helios

Dynamic and eclectic, the Helios orchestra has established itself since its creation in 2014.
Its artistic director, Paul Savalle, promotes the professional integration of young musicians through orchestral practice. Thus, young graduates mingle with experienced orchestral musicians, conductors and soloists in optimal working conditions.

From Baroque to contemporary music, the programs are varied, the repertoire is both symphonic and choral, with the orchestra partnering with departmental and regional choirs.

Thanks to the collaboration with different conductors, the musicians approach a very rich repertoire by broadening their interpretation palette. They all come from major French conservatories, some belonging to a national orchestra.

From string quartet to symphony orchestra, including the brass ensemble, the orchestra is always expanding its audience by modulating its composition. The "strings" formation performs in the most prestigious churches in Paris, allowing the public to discover a very rich architectural heritage.

Its variable geometry formation allows the Helios orchestra to approach a very wide repertoire with a passionate curiosity.

Our take on this event

Established in 2014, the Hélios Orchestra brings its dynamic performance style to the Eglise de la Madeleine for three select dates: October 14, November 10, and December 5, 2026. The concert program showcases a wide variety of works, including Handel's Sarabande, Bach's Aria, Rachmaninov's Vocalise, Elgar's Salut d'amour, and Monti's Czardas. This diverse selection highlights the ensemble's ability to adapt its formation, ranging from string quartets to full symphonic arrangements.

Central to the performance is Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, a cornerstone of the violin repertoire. The orchestra illustrates the seasonal shifts through intricate textures, such as the icy pizzicato sounds of winter and the powerful thunderous storms depicted in the final movement of summer. Artistic director Paul Savalle emphasizes a collaborative environment that bridges the gap between emerging conservatory graduates and established national orchestra musicians.

Each concert is scheduled from 20:00 to 21:15. Tickets are priced between 20 and 60 euros, and advanced booking is required. This event offers a rare chance to experience these famous adagios and concertos in the historic and acoustically resonant environment of one of Paris’s most iconic churches.
