François Racine de Monville, creator of the Désert de Retz
Born in 1724 into a family of financiers, he decorated his home in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré in the neoclassical style. In 1774, he bought the Retz estate, near Marly. He created poetic gardens in the spirit of the Enlightenment, which earned it the name Désert de Retz.
