SOLAXIS is an ensemble like no other: from baritone to soprano, the entire saxophone family is brought together for a summit meeting of five exceptional musicians, renowned soloists whose paths have crossed for years on stage and in the studio.
Saxophonist Lisa Cat-Berro (nominated for the 2013 Victoires du Jazz) brought them together and took up the challenge of composing for this atypical ensemble, starting with the desire to explore all the sonic possibilities offered by a saxophone quintet and to elevate the instrument. Added to this is a solid bass/drums rhythm section provided by two mainstays of the Parisian jazz-groove scene. Carried by this custom-crafted repertoire, each soloist can express her own personality, revealing seven strong and unique temperaments.
Slaloming with virtuosity between jazz, instrumental pop, 70s electro, and afro-beat, SOLAXIS captivates us with a dense sound, sculpted from the mass, sophisticated arrangements, and an intense groove—a kaleidoscope of hypnotic patterns driven by a flawless rhythm section. Conceived as a true manifesto, this group with its powerful and inspiring energy holds the colors of the saxophone high.
